Here you’ll find facts and history about various model years, as well as the so-called high-performance cars from the 1960s and more.
Chevrolet’s response came on Thursday, September 29, 1966: “Camaro, the car of today,” as the commercials put it. The Camaro became more than just a response to the Ford Mustang; it was a hit with its sleek lines and long list of optional features.

First
Generation
The origins of the Camaro can be traced back to various parts of GM, with the earliest dating as far back as the late 1950s. One of the more concrete origins can be found in the first week of April 1964
Second
Generation
A new generation of the Camaro appeared, significantly delayed, in February 1970 as the 1970 model, popularly known as the 70 1/2. It was highly anticipated at the time, and the question on everyone’s mind was whether it could live up to the immense popularity that the first generation had established.

Third
Generation
After an unusually long second generation (1970–1981), Chevrolet was late to the party with the 1982 Camaro and the third generation. The basic concept remained the same as before, but it was an almost entirely new Camaro with a unibody design.
Fourth
Generation
It arrived in 1993, a little late, but good things come to those who wait… GM had once again dragged its feet before the new generation arrived, but when it finally did, just about everyone was satisfied anyway.

Fifth
Generation
“Hiatus” is an English word that many of us had to live with starting on August 28, 2002, when the last fourth-generation Camaro rolled off the production line.
Rumors, rumors, and more rumors circulated during that time, until they suddenly became much more concrete toward the end of 2005.
