Chevrolet’s response came on Thursday, September 29, 1966: “Camaro, the car of today,” as the commercials put it. The Camaro became more than just a response to the Ford Mustang; it was a hit with its sleek lines and long list of optional features.
First Generation
The origins of the Camaro can be traced back to various sources within GM, with the earliest dating as far back as the late 1950s. One of the more concrete origins can be found in the first week of April 1964Second Generation
A new generation of the Camaro appeared, significantly delayed, in February 1970 as the 1970 model, popularly known as the 70 1/2. It was highly anticipated at the time, and the question on everyone’s mind was whether it could live up to the immense popularity established by the first generation.

Third Generation
After an unusually long generation—the second, spanning 1970–1981—Chevrolet was late to the party with a 1982 Camaro and the third generation. The basic concept remained the same as before, but it was an almost entirely new Camaro with a unibody design.Fourth Generation
It arrived in 1993, a bit late, but good things come to those who wait… GM had once again dragged its feet before the new generation arrived, but when it finally did, virtually everyone was satisfied anyway.
